1. Evolution of Internet… What is Web 3.0?

--

Web 1.0(Read) : When First data transfer/communication protocol is introduced in 80s, Internet was born. Now, People could read information published by some other person on Internet with the help of protocols like HTTP, TCP etc. This First Era of Internet is known as Web 1.0, Where one could only read data/information that some other person wrote and published. They searched for an article, read it and closed it, that’s mostly how far it went. Example: Yahoo, MSN etc.

Web 2.0(Read, Write) : From 2000s’ a new era of internet began, As people were tired of just following some other person’s instructions. They wanted to contribute, interact and express their own thoughts through internet. This was catalyzed by social media industry and companies like Facebook, Orkut etc. People were eager to share their opinion and interact with the data available on internet and thus everyone jumped onto it. and still most of the world is using Web 2.0 and interacting with more and more data and big companies started collecting this data. Example: Facebook, YouTube etc.

Web 3.0 : With the Rise and Popularity of Web 2.0, One concern was raised, About The Centralization of Data and It’s use, i.e. The Privacy of individual. As people started interacting with information online, their interactions and personal data was stored in the particular company’s database and they can use that data in however way possible, which is evident with Today’s world of online Advertising and Marketing. As this concern is peaking, Web 3.0 was introduced, with the whole mindset of Read, Write and Own. With Web3, participants will have full ownership over their content, data, and assets. It represents a democratized Internet, which stores data in decentralized way, i.e. No one person/organization can be the owner of everything. Example: DeSo, Pancakeswap, D.Tube etc.

It’s an Internet that is governed by users for the benefit of users.

As we will move more into this, Web3 will give users full ownership of their assets, data, practically anything via blockchains.

Blockchain is the technology lying behind all this Web 3.0 infrastructure. Basically Blockchain is Public Ledger(Set of Records). It stores the data/information in set of Blocks. These blocks are linked together forming a Chain. Each block is like a page of book.

Blockchain is NOT a cryptocurrency.

Blockchain is NOT a programming language, NOT a Framework

Blockchain is NOT an AI or Machine Learning technology.

So, How can we use it? OR What is the benefit of Blockchain?

Blockchain works as an immutable (unchangeable, fixed) records of data/transactions, that doesn’t need to rely on any centralized authority or organization for validation. (Even if to update any data, It will not remove previously stored data but will replace that data, with creating a new block of data and adding to the chain.)

So, How will it get validated?

As I told you earlier, It’s a Public Ledger, i.e. All data will be transparent and publicly available and The power lies in these public accessors(nodes) to validate the transaction/data. That’s how, millions of users on the Internet help manage and maintain these records. Hence, making it truly Decentralized and Democratized.

To sum up, Web 3.0 will provide an open, trustless, permission-less and secure network. As, It is open-source which is available for Everyone to use and explore, Users can directly interact without any Third-party intervention(No need of Trust as Everything will be transparent) and User/Suppliers don’t need permission of any authority to use it and no person/organization can own or control it.
